Jane Dixon, owner of the Good Food Garden
I have nearly twenty years experience of growing food for myself - starting with just a few tomato plants in my London flat feeding myself and my flatmate to the third of an acre plot I manage today that provides food for my family almost every day of the year. My preference is always to work with nature and follow organic principles wherever possible. I studied horticulture with the RHS, specialising in organic methods and gained a top distinction.
I have two young children, a husband, large dog and four chickens. Between them all, they keep me busy! I really want my children to understand how food grows, where it comes from and why it is so good to eat locally produced, fresh food. It is much easier convincing a four year old to eat their peas if they have just picked and podded them themselves!
The Good Food Garden was born from an idea to use my skills to help other families grow, harvest and eat their own food. I know how difficult it is to find the time to get into the garden and start that project to create a couple of veg plots - it is a lot easier to keep them going once they have been built and stocked specifically with the things your family want to eat! This is where I can help.
